We’re excited to share some important news: aPlank’s Aluminum Siding with woodgrain finish has officially achieved a Class A rating in ASTM E84 testing, one of the most recognized fire performance standards in the building industry.

• Flame Spread Index (FSI): 5

• Smoke Developed Index (SDI): 30

What This Means?

ASTM E84, also known as the Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials, measures how quickly flames spread and how much smoke develops when a material is exposed to fire. Materials are classified as:

• Class A: FSI 0–25, SDI ≤ 450 (highest performance)

• Class B: FSI 26–75

• Class C: FSI 76–200

With an FSI of just 5, our siding significantly outperforms the threshold for Class A, showing minimal flame spread and very low smoke production.
